RACE NOTES FOR FULL MARATHON

PLEASE CHECK RACE WEB SITE AFTER 6:00 AM ON DAY OF RACE FOR ANY RACE/COURSE CHANGES CAUSED BY INCLEMENT WEATHER: WWW.MTSNEFFELSMARATHON.COM

1.  The marathon course is the same as last year.  We highly recommend that you study the map prior to the race.  In general, the race starts at Solar Ranches Soccer park in Ridgway and marathoners run south toward Ouray, turnaround in Ouray’s Hot Springs Park and return to Ridgway using the exact same course to the finish line at Solar Ranches Park.  Please note that there is an out and back spur on CR 3 (via CR 3A) in the first 3 miles of the race and the same out and back spur at approx. Mile 23.  You must run down CR 3 for approximately one mile where there is a volunteer at the turnaround to record bib numbers to ensure all marathoners get to the turnaround two times during the race.

2.  Mile markers on the course for the marathon are in red.  You are sharing the course with the half-marathon runners and their mile markers are in a lime green shade.

 3.  Your bibs have disposable timing chips embedded in them.  We will time the race for 7 hours and you must make it to the halfway point (Ouray Hot Springs Park) within 4 hours (an official will be recording bib nos.)  If you take longer, that’s OK.  We just won’t be able to give you an official time.

 4.  When you arrive at the finish in Ridgway, there will be two finish line chutes.  You want to go through the chute on the left which is for marathon participants only.  (The chute on the right is for half-marathon finishers only).

 5.  Please make sure your bib number is visible when you cross the finish line and stay in roped off area at the finish line until someone has handed you your finisher’s medal!

 6.  If you go back on the course to pace someone, PLEASE remove your bib entirely.

7.  Please use caution and be aware that there may be marathon and half- marathon participants coming the opposite way.

8.  No dogs and no bicycles on the course.  We will have Mt. Sneffels race officials on mountain bikes leading the front runners of both races.

 9.  There will be 13 aid stations with water and Gatorade (most aid stations will also have a toilet available).  There will be M&M’s at most of the aid stations and food at the finish line and GU at the marathon turnaround on CR3.

 10.  You may use the tear tags on your bib to enter the Box Canon Falls and Ouray Hot Springs Pool for half price on Friday, Saturday or Sunday only.

 11.  You will also have a tear tag for one complimentary micro-brewed beer at the finish line.  You must be 21 years old and I.D.’s will be checked.

12.  Complimentary shuttle buses from Ridgway to Ouray will run throughout the morning starting at approximately 9:30 am.

13.  Age category awards will be available in the awards tent and the ceremony for the prize money winners and overall winners for the full and half-marathons will start at approximately noon on the stage at the Ridgway Town Park.

14. We reserve the right to stop the race if inclement weather threatens our aid station volunteers or runners. We will start to disassemble finish line at 1:30 pm.
